Photo Hunt Challenges | May 2011

First up, I would like to say thank you to the judges of last month's hunt because 8 out of 12 pictures were chosen as favorites in different categories. Big thanks!

It's the first of June now, so here's my take on the May 2011 hunt:

01- Wind

01. Wind
31 May 2011

Quite difficult to photograph something that is not seen by the naked eyes, but yesterday when mom and I attended the wedding of one of our neighbors, the photographer asked someone to hold the veil as high as he could and asked him to drop it so it would create some sort of a drama. The wind was able to hold the veil long enough for people to take pictures of the veil before it hit the ground.

02- Sprout

02. Sprout
10 May 2011

I first placed the tomato seeds in one container, and when the seeds sprouted, I transferred each seedling in small growing pots. As of this writing, the tomatoes are big enough to be transferred in bigger pots. Hooray for growth!

03- Fresh

03. Fresh
01 May 2011

Sister and I went to the Sidcor Weekend Market, and since I had my camera with me, I was able to photograph these eye candies! Now, where's the vinaigrette? :)

04- Vibrant

04. Vibrant Colors
15 May 2011

Just one of the many, many awesome colorful house display during the Pahiyas Festival in Lucban, Quezon.

05- Unique

05. Unique
07 May 2011

Sister and I attended a children's party, and one of the games the kids play was this - them holding an illustration board and on the host's cue, they'd draw shapes until they complete the face image. Since the kids couldn't see what they were drawing, it resulted to different funny looking faces, but one big reason why I chose this to be my "unique" picture is because... nobody is perfect, and even if some of us have things to be considered funny, we all have one unique thing in us that makes us truly one of a kind.

Echoing a Backstreet Boys' song, "What makes you different, makes you beautiful."

06- Wet

06. Wet
15 May 2011

Rice sprouts sprinkled with water - something I took during the Pahiyas Festival.
07- Lines

07. Lines
21 May 2011

After the event sis and I attended at the Enderun Colleges, we walked to the Venice Piazza in McKinley Hill to take pictures. I wanted to take a picture of the place, but sister was sitting near the fountain, so I just asked her to pose.

Anyway, I guess this picture depicted quite a lot of lines - vertical, horizontal, even curvy lines because of the water in the fountain.

08- Spring

08. Spring Activity
06 May 2011

There is no spring here in the Philippines, but I guess the idea of "spring" is when everything comes out... including animals. Well, I don't normally see hoppers in the garden, so I guess this critter coming out is a signal of spring.

09- Reading Material

09. Reading Material
21 May 2011

The library of Enderun Colleges.

10- One Point Perspective

10. One Line Perspective
11 May 2011

Sis and I went to visit ten churches this day, and one of the churches we visited for the first time that day was the San Sebastian Church in Manila.

11- Juicy

11. Something Juicy
14 May 2011

This has to be the one prompt I wasn't able to take a picture of... but seeing this picture I took last 14 May while visiting the "Kamay ni Hesus" shrine in Lucban, Quezon made me think this might pass as "something juicy." Well, juicy being the apple Eve was offering to Adam.

Whew! So thankful I was able to hunt all images. To view other takes, please head to the Photo Hunt Challenges website.

April 2011 Photo Hunt

It's the first day of May now... time to present the pictures for the April 2011 photo hunt.

01 - Animals

01. Animals
(30 April 2011)

Well, just an "animal" for me... I took this after I took pictures of the sunset clouds. For a few days already, I have been hearing a different kind of chirp, and while taking pictures of the clouds, I heard the chirp again and saw this bird. It was pretty, but because it was dusk already, my camera wasn't able to capture its colors well (it's brown with white).

02 - Bedroom

02. Bedroom
(29 April 2010)

I just changed the linens because mom told me cousin Jayson might arrive today. I didn't bother clearing up the desk anymore since this wasn't my bedroom anymore, but later that day, I found my cat Orange-y sleeping on the bed! This cat really loves fresh linens (I can't blame him - who doesn't love the smell of fresh sheets?), so I just let him sleep for a while. Of course, I gave the linen a pass of sticky tape to take out the fur.

03 - Best From 16/17

03. Best From 16 / 17
17 April 2011

My sister and I went to the Sidcor Weekend Market, and before going home, I asked sister if we could pass by the plants section so I could take pictures of the flowers. It was already near lunch that time so there weren't that much to take pictures anymore, but I was able to see this passion vine flower hidden somewhere - hooray!

In Fashion

04. In Fashion
(04 April 2011)

A rather "stolen" shot of my sister wearing tank tops and miniskirt - something in fashion this summertime.

05 - Lawn / Garden

05. Lawn / Garden
(17 April 2011)

Another picture taken at the weekend market.. I am not sure what this plant is called, but I typically see the yellow kind, so seeing ones in purple made me very interested in taking pictures of it.

Waiting to Click

06. Lazy
(10 April 2010)

A few years ago, I got to read an article about cats being the "masters" and not a pet because of how it manipulate its owners to do things for them, and that they are always asleep, etcetera etcetera. Digging deep about it, I tend to believe it, and my cats aren't different - they surely love to sleep and relax. :)

07 - Playtime

07. Playtime
(05 April 2011)

Another picture of my cat Oreo. I was playing computer games that day, which made him a bit jealous I guess, so when I wasn't giving him much attention anymore, he decided to jump up the desk and lied on my net book! What a way to ruin a playtime. :)

08 - Rain / Shower

08. Rain / Water.
(30 April 2011)

My old Troll doll taking a shower in the sink.

09 - Silhouette

09. Silhouette
(30 April 2011)

I was writing a blog post when a Twitter friend of mine twitted, "Sunset Alert!" It made me check the sky and true enough, it was beautiful! Well, there's a big house hindering my view of the sun, but the colors of the sky were so beautiful, I went back to get my camera. I took this from the side part of our house... we had some chicken wires as fence to deter robbers (well, there was a high concrete wall anyway, we just had the wires installed to add more protection), so as you can see, there were "mysterious" lines in the image.

Framing the shot... the neighbor's avocado tree was just there - so might as well include them in the shot. The warm light from the sun provided a good silhouette look on the tree, don't you think?

10 - Something Tiny

10. Something Tiny
(01 April 2011)

A macopa flower I was able to take a picture of. It had so many tiny pollens (am I right?) that made it really, really pretty.

11  Something Huge

11. Something Huge
(27 April 2011)

Well, the fish wasn't huge to begin with, but seeing the cat and presenting the image in this perspective, it really made my cat small and the fish huge.

12 - Texture

12. Texture
04 April 2011

There is texture from the strawberries, but as I post processed this, I incorporated two textures I downloaded off the Internet. This was the very first image I post-processed with textures, so I don't know if I did good or not... I just experimented with the image.

By the way, the textures I used for certain images were taken from different sources. The pink one, which I used in the strawberry image was taken HERE, the grungy old paper which I used both in the strawberry image and that of the macopa flower was taken HERE and the last, which I used in the bird image was taken from HERE. My biggest thanks for sharing your talent.

For more takes on different items for hunt, please check the Photo Hunt Challenges website. The May 2011 photo hunt list is now up, as well... see you all again next month, and thank you for dropping by here.

Feb 2011 Photo Hunt Results

The Photo Hunt Challenges is one of my favorite photo memes. Since I started doing it June 2009, it is something I am always looking forward to, even if some months I wasn't able to join due to certain reasons. Before, I used my personal blog to showcase the pictures, but now that I have "the other photo blog," I decided to transfer the hunt here. I am also thankful that I brought my netbook with me as I take a vacation here in my paternal hometown, I can still post my take to the prompts in time. Here are what I captured for the February 2011 Photo Hunt Challenge:

01 - Best From 2.19/2.20

01 - Best From 2.19 or 2.20
Colinas Verdes - San Jose del Monte, Bulacan
20 February 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

I wasn't able to take good pictures on February 19, so February 20 I made sure I brought my camera with me where I go so I could have something to share. This is where my sister and (sometimes) our neighbor friend Ria jog most mornings in the week. That day, my sister had a mild asthma attack so she wasn't able to come with Ria and I. I was taking pictures of a passiflora when Ria told me she would just walk around instead of standing waiting for me. When I got up to continue walking, I noticed the clouds looked like fireworks, so I took a picture before catching up with her. She's the person in the picture in case you wanted to know. :)

02 - Cultural

02 - Black History Month / Cultural
Baguio City, Benguet
26 February 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

I do own a necklace made of big wooden beads given to me by my Nigerian friend Jude, but I wasn't able to take a picture of it before sister and I left, so I decided to go something cultural. This picture I took during the Panagbenga Festival held in Baguio City. The girls are wearing traditional Igorot costumes, the tribe living in this part of the country. Although I cannot say for sure if the girls have the Igorot blood (Baguio City is a melting pot of different people coming from different locations), but even if majority of the people in the city aren't really Igorot, the city and the province respect the tribe so much that most of the contingents for the grand street parade wore traditional Igorot costumes.

The colorful fabric they were wearing were actually woven by hand.

Canned Goods
03 - Canned Food Month
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

I didn't like this picture when I first shared it through Ashley's Scavenger Hunt Sunday meme, and I really hoped to take something different, but decided against it. I hoped to open a can of corn kernels, but I knew I couldn't eat it all, and I didn't want to open the box of Vienna Sausages containing 18 cans of the food, so I decided to just go with this picture instead.

Foodie 365 - 50/365

04 - Everyday
19 February 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

Not only do I eat everyday, I also take food pictures everyday because my Project 365 for this year is all about food! Not only do I get to make sure I finish a Project 365 (first two attempts failed), I also got to make a food log - where I list down all the things I have eaten.

Warmth
05 - Hearts
Max's Corner Bakery - Max's Restaurant Glorietta 3, Makati
17 February 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

I was invited to a food blog event, and not only were we able to take home goodies, we also tried our hands in decorating cupcakes using provided icings (of different flavors) and candy sprinkles. This wasn't my decoration, though... but one of my favorites on the table.

Beads

06 - Macro
14 February 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

A macro shot of one of the bracelets in my mom's closet. Made of strung beads, I really had fun testing the depth of field in taking pictures of it.

Sony Ericsson K800i

07 - Numbers
20 February 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

My three year old Cysho... I do love this cell phone of mine because not only do I get to stay connected with friends and family (including relatives), I can also capture live events using its oh-so-good camera. :)

Oreo Kitty

08 - Something Cozy

16 February 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

My dear cat Oreo trying to sleep using my jogging pants as his bed. Well, me turning on my camera woke him up, so I had no choice but to take a picture of him like this.

09 - Something Furry

09 - Something Furry
Colinas Verdes - San Jose del Monte, Bulacan
22 February 2011
{Sony Ericsson K800i}

A grass resembling a furry cat's tail against the sunrise.

10 - Something Red

10 - Something Red
Colinas Verdes - San Jose del Monte, Bulacan
12 February 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

When I signed up for the challenge, this item was something easy to do considering I will be traveling out of town, but as I check my files, I realized I totally neglected taking a particular red image. I hope this red fire tree would do justice to the prompt. :)

11 - Something White

11 - Something White
Shrine of Our Lady of Namacpacan - Luna, La Union
28 February 2011

For this day, my sister and I went to check the St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish in the town of Luna, and as we pay respect to the image of Our Lady of Namacpacan, I noticed the bunch of white mums in the vases, and took a picture before leaving. :)

12 - View From Above

12 - View From Above
Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point - San Fernando, La Union
27 February 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

I have seen the place three or four times already, but since my sister still hasn't seen it, I decided to take her there. Security was tight following the local actor John Estrada's wedding to former Miss Earth Priscilla Mereilles, but we were able to get in and catch the view. When I took this picture, the stairway to the pool area was closed so I just took a picture from above (using one of the holes in the wall as my frame). A few minutes later, they opened area to guests so sis and I were still able to go to the boardwalk.

So there were the 12 pictures for this month's hunt. If you want to check the other takes, just click HERE. Thanks to Aimee for hosting this month's hunt.
