Scarred

My sister and I went to pick up a gift that was sent to me by one of my blogging friends (thanks, Ms. JoyD!) when we stopped by the EDSA Shrine in Ortigas. Checking out shrines and churches has been one of my photography passions, and since I am already in the area, why not visit this shrine as well?

It's a very interestingly different shrine, and what got me interested the most was this image of the crucified Jesus. Of all the crucified images I have seen, this was the only scarred I have seen. I know it's just an image - a representation, yet seeing the scars kinda hit me. Makes me realize all the things Jesus has went through to save mankind.

Just Look Up

It's going to be Today's Flowers meets Monochrome Maniacs this week. This photo was shot last October, when I revisited the San Nicolas de Tolentino church in Balaoan, La Union. That time, the church's main door was closed and there was some construction going, so I just roamed around the church to check if they have a door on the side. None. But, I did see this scene, and seeing that there were flowers below, I just knelt to take the shot.

I was able to enter the church after talking to the staff in their office. Had the main door been open that day, I might not be able to see this. I guess the universe is really working their way to my advantage.

View From the Top

Very busy schedule have made me absent for two weeks I guess. Sorry about that.

One time for Monochrome Monday I have posted a picture from Calle Crisologo in Vigan and I said on that entry that I will be back in the place with my friend K. Well, a month ago, that trip commenced and here was a picture taken from that trip.

The trip was my fifth time in Vigan City this year, but it was the first time that I spent two days straight there, and since the hotel we chose was located along the famous Calle Crisologo (Crisologo Street), K and I went to the roof top after eating breakfast. Seeing the place in an elevated perspective was a new thing to me, and it made me appreciate the place a whole lot better. This is my favorite place ever.

Last week, we celebrated grandpa's 1st year death anniversary, and mom and I just said the rosary and light candles for him.

A Sad Fate

My British friend K and I went to La Loma Cemetery in Caloocan City as part of our holiday. Like what I have said in my other blog, neither K nor I know someone who was buried in the cemetery, but K just had to drop by this particular cemetery, because there is some kind of connection between my friend K's family and the cemetery. It's quite a personal connection, and I don't know if I can share it or not, so I guess I will just shut my mouth.

Anyway, we are on our way out of the cemetery and K guided me to the section in the cemetery where he took this shot that I really liked. It was raining, and as I step on a damp soil to gain momentum as I take the shot, I notice this broken epitaph, probably from the children section of the cemetery, because when we went there, we notice that some of the apartment style tombs for the babies had this notice of something (I forgot how it was called), and K said that should the family fail to pay their rents, the bones will be taken out, so other can rent the space. There are quite a lot of open spaces in the section, and it was just so sad. Some of the babies were born and died on the same day, and although they still haven't done anything to make their mark, for the family to forget about them truly is a sad fate.

Oh well..

Calle Crisologo

I once posted a picture of my brother along this historical street in the city of Vigan in Ilocos Sur, and a few people commented that I should have converted the picture in gray scale to give the picture more drama. So this week, I am sharing another picture from the area - this time converting the picture into gray scale and enhanced the brightness a little bit.

This picture excites me in the sense that my friend K and I will be visiting this place (Vigan City is my most favorite place among all the places I have visited) next week. It would be fifth time for me this year, considering that this place is almost 10 hours by bus from where I live. If only I can live there, too... =)

From Yellow to Gray

This was originally a yellow flower I took from the plant kiosk of a mall. Taken by my cell phone, it was the only picture I shot that time because my brother was already entering the mall and I didn't want to be left behind. I just convert it into grayscale for this meme. I still would hope I can do dramatic scenic shots into black and white as well.
