Polphin the Penguin

weekend snapshots

Polphin the Penguin

That intersection between Quirino Highway and Regalado Avenue in Quezon City has a new attraction aside from the big SM Fairview mall! These inflatable penguins are just so beautiful, that whenever I had the chance to pass by the road, I always look out the window to check it out. These penguins looked like you're suddenly in Antarctica (though not as cold), or you've been in the company of Mumble of Happy Feet.

As what I have written in my other post, brother and I went on grocery shopping, and we decided to take the jeepney ride home on the same intersection. Since it was still early, we took out our cameras and shoot away. The vendor was certainly surprised, but amazed that we took interest with her products. Each penguin cost about 35 pesos, and as cute as they can be, we didn't buy one because we were each carrying three grocery bags, and if we buy one and put it inside the house (or elsewhere in the house), for sure the cats will just deflate them using their pointy claws.

For now, I will just content myself looking at this picture and looking out of the window. This picture is taken using my Sony Ericsson K800i cellphone.

Hot Pink Flower

My travel blog -- Jenn Was Here, will be talking about the weekend market in Lung Center of the Philippines, so for this blog, I am going to share a picture of a flower I saw from the grounds of the hospital.

Flower

I don't know what this flower is called, but as far as I can remember, I really have hoped to have this plant in our garden. I loved the colors of the flowers, and among the colors I've seen in the hospital, this hot pink one has got to be my favorite. Does anyone know the name of this flower? If you know, please tell me, okay? Thanks!

Taken on 08 June 2008, using my Canon Powershot A580 digital camera, set to foliage macro, no flash.

Have a great week ahead!

An Unknown Flower

weekend snapshots

Unknown Flower

Unknown Flower

These pictures were taken 28 May 2008 by the yard near Sta. Maria Church in Ilocos Sur. After visiting the church, brother and I walked to the nearest bus stop to wait for our ride going to Vigan. We were waiting so long there, and this flower was just near where we were sitting, and immediately after noticing it I already wanted to take a picture of it. But sun was too bright and too hot, I decided to wait for a nice opportunity to take some pictures.

I didn't want to miss the opportunity, so after a while of waiting for a perfect timing, I went and take my shot, amid the brightness and the heat. It was hard to check the screen if the shot was good, so I shot in good faith that the flowers were captured nicely. I have had about 10 shots, and these two were the only presentable ones.

The flower wasn't big, making it hard to take a shot. I was actually kneeling and bending myself just to take a macro shot of the flower, and I am by the bus stop! Hahahahaha... if not for the heat burning my back I will continue doing it, but I still have a long day, I didn't want to smell bad! =)

Taken using Canon Powershot A580, set to foliage, macro, no flash.

Hope everyone will have a great week ahead. Thanks for stopping by.

Yellow Roses

weekend snapshots

Yellow Roses

Sister and I were in the Lung Center weekend market again yesterday, and I didn't want to get sick once more, so I told myself I should be aware of what I was doing and drinking. I decided to stop taking too much pictures and concentrate more on the reason why we were there.

We got to buy what mom asked us to buy, but sister wasn't able to buy a pair of shoes she needed for today. It was a pleasurable day at the market despite the rainshowers, and I think I am getting addicted to this market! Not only do we get to eat delicious foods, we were also able to exercise (walking around the place for more than three hours)!

While we were looking for the stall that sells chicharon (pork rind cracklings), we passed by the plants section and this bunch of yellow roses and decided to take a picture of it. Sister gave me the "eyes" and I said I will just take a picture of it and I promised that we will carry on with the market tour. =)

Fact: among all the roses, this is my favorite color.

Taken using Canon Powershot A580, manual mode -- macro, no flash.

Brownout!

The weekend (especially Sunday) left us with nothing to do because of there was no electricity from 6 in the morning 'til 10 PM! *** Full story can be read here *** This particular picture was taken around 4:30PM, while we were preparing for our late lunch / early dinner. We only had one big candle on our dinner table because we didn't want to waste that much candles -- we weren't sure if the electricity would take long before it came back.

I took this one using our digital camera (Canon Powershot A580) in manual mode: no flash, colors on vivid. Thanks for dropping by.

Making the Jump

The camera of my cell phone has this "best pic" feature wherein it captures nine images from the moment you hit the shutter until you release it, making it the best feature to use when your subject is moving. I still haven't tried it, until we went to check out the sunset last month.

Making the Jump

The "jump" pictures, I think is now the "in" pictures here in the Philippines -- whenever I check different profiles in Friendster, I always see pictures of people jumping. Personally, I love those pictures, especially if the photographer was able to capture the subject while on air.

I asked brother to do that, but I cannot hit the shutter at the right time, I so ended up a little frustrated and my brother - a bit tired. I remember the "best pic" feature and used that to capture my brother's pictures jumping. At first I had a hard time trying to make two things work, but on my third try, I finally got it.

I was so happy when I let brother see his images. I think he liked it, too, but I liked my cell phone all the more! I feel so proud to own this way too cool cell phone! By the way, I am using a Sony Ericsson K800i cell phone. If you want to see a bigger version of the picture, just click on it.

Have a great week ahead!

My First Night Macro

weekend snapshots

Night Macro

One of the images I took on Aunt Julie's birthday, I took this one while we're walking to the Hen Haw Chinese Restaurant located in the National Highway. I know it's hard to take a Macro Shot in the dark -- I cannot check the image if it's clear or not because the red Xenon flash would light up the subject. Aunt Julie and brother dear were walking fast, so in fears they might leave me, I just aimed and shoot.

When I transferred the pictures on the computer, I found the picture 50% good and 50% not. I was hoping the front of the flower would be clear and the one behind a bit blurred, but turns out, the one in front was blurred and the one behind was clear. Nevertheless, I still liked the image -- of course I took it! =) Well, first times are always prone to many mistakes, it's in that stage that we were still starting to learn about things, so I see huge potential that the next time I do macro shot at night, I will be able to do it more nicely.

I uploaded this image on my Flickr site, and a few days after I uploaded it, I received a comment from an administrator of a Flickr Group called "Night Macro" and would like to add this image in their group's photo pool. According to him, I could try putting a semi-transparent object over the flash to decrease the flash's power. Hmmm... I might actually do that next time! I guess beauty is indeed on the eyes of the beholder. I am 50/50 about this image, yet an administrator of a group that does night macro liked it. Yey for me!

WS - Restroom Vanities, p2

weekend snapshots

Yesterday, mom, sis, and I went to the mall for some bonding and some day out. We were supposed to hear mass, but we got in the mall late, the priest was already delivering his homily. After the homily, mom said she needed to use the restroom, so off we all go.

Sister and I weren't really going to use the restroom, and since the place is deserted, we just took pics... again. I am really trying to master how to take pictures in front of the mirror and this is the one I liked best among the few I took. It was a bit blurred, but this is what I can do for now. Hopefully next time I can do better.

Thanks for dropping by my post for this week. May we all have a great week ahead.
