Even with the modern times and technologies, there are farmers here in the Philippines that still use the carabao as a helper in their farming. Not only do they help the farmers in tilling the land, they also help in pulling carriages and / or carrying heavy baskets. The trusty carabao is ready to serve to the best of its abilities, but I found out that this animal also have their siesta. They have to be in the shade come noon time, and has to stay there until afternoon, because farmers say that the carabao cannot take too much heat, which is why farmers start tilling the land very early in the morning.
This carabao I found relaxing under the shade of the bamboo when my brother and I went to our Aunt Lorie's place to check out the corn and tobacco fields. I didn't want to come near the carabao because I am afraid of its horns, but I was happy that this one's behaving good. =)

Cheaper to run than trying to keep pace with fuel prices - that is, of course, if the farmers can afford to buy seed,etc in Al Gore's world.
