Power Breakfast

When you talk about Filipino Breakfast, one of the things people will tell you about are the "-silog" dishes. Typically, a Filipino breakfast consists of SInangag (or fried rice) and itLOG (egg) paired with other fried food, normally cold cuts and dried fish. If ever you find your way here in the Philippines, you will know that there are so many combinations for the "-silog" dishes.

This one is the BangSiLog (bang is a shortened "bangus" or milkfish), my choice of breakfast when K and I ate our breakfast in Las Palmas Hotel (Malate, Manila). The breakfast came for free, and of all the -silog dishes, this has got to be the best I ever had. The fish tasted so great - the marination was perfect and the achara (pickled young papaya) was the best companion for the fish. Typically, Filipinos just have hot drinks for breakfast, but they serve the breakfast with a glass of orange juice, a first for me. Overall, it was a very heavy breakfast, and I was so full after the meal. However, I didn't eat the yolks of the eggs because it wasn't fully cooked. I really don't eat soft yolks.

I have been known to eat a big Breakfast when away from home but normally I can't look at big food at that time. Toast and Coffee - mainly coffee.

Very interesting. I do enjoy fried eggs over easy, but the rice and fish would be very different for me. Thanks for stopping by for breakfast at Pollywog Creek.
