What is That???

I wasn't able to check the themes list ahead of time, and I will be out this afternoon, so I really had a hard time hunting for my photo. I didn't want to pass this week up because I wasn't able to join last week, so I really had to make up for this week.

I found this picture among my files, I don't know if this one is acceptable, but I still would like to share this image:

Adobong Balot

When you say "the Philippines," the one exotic food that's associated with the country is the balot. Foreign visitors are often persuaded (or dared) to eat the food, and is one time used as a food challenge for Survivor: Palau. Hmmm, I didn't know Palau has balot, too!

Anyway, what is a balot? It's a fermented duck egg, and what's interesting about it is that there's already a chick inside it. See the black parts of the egg in the dish? Those are the feathers! Yes, even I am having a hard time eating this food. Actually, I don't eat the chick, I only eat the yolk!

But I don't eat egg now, because it's cholesterol rich, and it would be bad for me. But as exotic as it is, This is actually delicious! Believe me!

Taken 28 June 2008, at the Salcedo Weekend Market using my Canon Powershot A580 digital camera, set to manual, without flash.

Happy Weekends!

You're right about mine. It is jewellery on a shell.

I hope it tastes better than it looks.

don't think I could eat this. I do eat egg normally, but fermented and with a chick inside, no thanks. Saw a programme on TV about Magellan and when he landed in the Phillipines on his epic journey to find the spice islands etc. Interesting.

Thanks for the comments!

Miah -- I actually didn't taste this dish, I just saw this dish being sold at the Weekend Market in Salcedo Village, Makati.

Catharine -- Yes, Magellan did discover the Philippines while he's out looking for Spice Islands.
